and while we're at it.. a little vocab
Ampelography (Αμπελος, “vine” + γραφος, ‘writing’) is the field of botany concerned with the identification and classification of grapevines, Vitis spp. Traditionally this has been done by comparing the shape and colour of the vine leaves and grape berries; more recently the study of vines has been revolutionised by DNA fingerprinting.
Chardonnay!

Here’s a great article with lots of information on the Chardonnay grape. It’s not too long-so it’s a pretty quick read. Here’s a recap of the good stuff:
In the Chablis region of France, it is the only grape permitted and it renders a “crisp, flinty” wine. In the Meursault ...

Food & Wine's Rose Fact Sheet
Wine Guide Fact Sheet: Rosés By Richard Nalley

Some rosés are produced by tincturing white wine with a little red wine, but the people who use this technique don’t usually brag about it.
Where are they from?...

And, nowadays, many winemakers mix a certain amount of white grapes with the red. The elaboration of rosé wine is delicate. It is probably why the amateur is sometimes disappointed by the quality of a rosé....

In case you’ve ever wanted to make your own bottle of wine without investing in a full vineyard.. here’s a very cool way to do it. You do have to buy the whole barrel (about 25 cases of wine or so), but the bottles average out to anywhere from $19-$36 each.. not too bad for your own vintage!

Wine collectors eye cellars for liquidity →
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Wine cellars have been taking a hit from the global credit crisis and it isn’t because the owners of rare bottles are drinking more — it’s because they have been selling to raise cash.

Wine Enthusiast Looks to Win Over a Wider Audience... →
As anyone who has bought a $50 bottle of Shiraz at Costco or a $200 wine refrigerator at Target can attest, wine has gone mainstream. Having more people interested in the kind of products you sell is generally a good thing. But with wine...
